![]() The backgrounds are noticeably busy without being obstructive, while the landscapes have a serene atmosphere to them. Just as was the case with the first Hollow Knight, there's a tremendous amount of detail in the environments and in the backgrounds. The Moss Grotto is a great demonstration of Team Cherry's art style at work. Minor enemies get in the way in the game's opening minutes, with Hornet able to dispatch them with a few simple hits. Because of all the climbing required, players will put a new edge grab into frequent use. The idea is to ascend the world's various platforms. With that said, Moss Grotto sits at the bottom of the world. The goal is much more vertical, noting again that the idea is to reach the top of the world. At its core, Silksong retains the Hollow Knight Metroidvania formula. With the background out of the way, we started out our playthrough in Moss Grotto, said to be the simpler of two available demos. And while the first game's Knight had a full arsenal of moves, Hornet will bring along some new abilities, as she faces a gallery of new foes. She finds herself in a whole new world, with the idea to traverse through it and ascend to the citadel at its peak. That new lead character is Hornet, princess-protector of the land of Hallownest. Following the events of the first game, a new protagonist is stepping into the forefront. Team Cherry unveiled this sequel back in February, taking a DLC project and deciding to blow it up into a full-blown standalone title. Let's offer up some quick background on Hollow Knight: Silksong, for the uninitiated. ![]() Seeing Hollow Knight: Silksong playable at the Nintendo booth was a pleasant surprise and Shacknews was more than willing to wait in line to give this sequel from Team Cherry a try. It also offered up a formidable indie gaming presence, including a highly-anticipated follow-up to one of 2017's best games. The publisher's booth featured Luigi, Pokemon, Link, and even the full pantheon of Marvel superheroes. When Imogen Beckhelling took a brief look at Silksong last year, it already seemed like Team Cherry's latest was set to recapture the magic of its predecessor, so hopefully this surprise info-drop means the developer is in a giving mood and might soon be kind enough to share more.Nintendo's E3 2019 lineup featured a strong number of first-party heavy hitters. Granted, it's not a lot to go on, but it's pleasing to see Team Cherry is continuing to build on Hollow Knight's engaging, and remarkably rich lore. Have you come bearing the organs of others? Or would you offer your own? Gift your sshell's warm insidess as ssweet feast for my brood'sss birth-meal?". Though her attention is fixed on her task, she seems to know much about the waning state of Pharloom, scorning the Citadel above and the hapless pilgrims that make their ascent towards it."Īnd there's some dialogue to accompany the description too: "Ssssppiiiderr, Your ssstench is strange yet similar. The Huntress (as helpfully relayed on the Hollow Knight subreddit) is described as "A towering old predator, awaiting her children to come. ![]() ![]() Once diligent community members had finally cracked the case, they were provided with a zip file - password protected with the phrase "huntress" - containing an image of the new NPC, an animated gif (below), and some text. The Huntress was discovered by fans after decoding a series of Hollow-Knight-related riddles disseminated to the game's official Discord. At this point, then, any new morsel is welcome, and Team Cherry has finally delivered with a tease of a new NPC character - a "towering old predator" who seems likely to be named The Huntress. Since Silksong's initial reveal, Team Cherry has offered a smattering of new information (and a short playable demo did the rounds at various game events last year), but additional details have been increasingly slow to emerge. Given that it promises another bout of gorgeously moody Metroidvania-style action very much in line with its critically acclaimed predecessor - albeit with a new protagonist, Hornet - fans have been understandably anxious to learn more. ![]() Silksong, which was unveiled early last year for Switch and PC, started life with the goal of adding a second playable DLC character to Hollow Knight, but its sheer ambitious scale eventually saw Team Cherry electing to turn it into a standalone title instead. Info-starved Hollow Knight fans eager for fresh details on developer Team Cherry's highly anticipated sequel, Hollow Knight: Silksong, now have a tiny new morsel to cling onto, with a recent community challenge having relinquished its reward in the form of an NPC reveal. ![]()
